Global lockdown has fueled a massive surge in popularity for astrology––after all, it’s comforting to look to the stars for guidance during uncertain times, and correspondingly, astrology memes have never been more popular. There’s an astrology guide for everything from gift ideas to travel destinations, so why shouldn’t there be one for cars?
If you’re in the market for a car and you’re overwhelmed by all the choices out there, try looking to your star sign for some ideas. We’ve put together a fun, completely unserious little guide on cars for each star sign in the zodiac.
Aries
As befits the first star sign of the zodiac, Aries people are dynamic, energetic, and above all like to come first! They won’t settle for anything less than the best in life, and prefer to let their actions speak for themselves. (Dating tip: they love grand gestures.) Everyone knows they’re headed straight for the top, as fast as they can go, and it shows in the cars they’re attracted to. Practicality is secondary; think flashy new models all about power and performance. For Aries who can afford it, luxe cars like Porsches, Corvettes, Chevrolet Cruzes, Dodge Vipers, and Teslas are great choices. Consider also the Mazda MX-5 Miata which is surprisingly affordable, but just as eye-catching and zippy as a Porsche. Perfect for the Aries on a budget.
Taurus
Earthy Taureans are known for their good taste, and they love their little luxuries: anything they own has to look good and feel at least a little indulgent. Spending money isn’t an issue, but that purchase has to be worth their hard-earned cash. They’re not especially attracted to flashy cars for their own sake––whatever they’re driving has to strike that balance between looks and practicality. (Fuel efficiency is a real bonus here!) If it feels great to drive, even better––perfect for quality time with their loved ones. Taurus people can’t go wrong with classic cars like Volkswagens, Volvos, and more upmarket Toyotas like the Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.
Gemini
Air signs tend to love variety and change, and Geminis could not be more representative of those traits! Look at a Gemini and you know they can do pretty much anything they want to do. Lively, sociable, youthful Geminis get bored easily, and revel in what keeps things fresh, fun, and interesting. For example, why own a car when they could just lease one, and switch things up with new models? Comfort is secondary to style with this star sign, and they often like cars that stand out from the crowd: think a Jaguar convertible (perfect for zipping around town with your best friends), Mazda Miata MX-5, Fisker Karmas, Mini Coopers, or VW Beetles. Good rides, good times.
Cancer
The second biggest softie of the star signs after Pisces, Cancerians are caring, empathetic, and family-oriented folks. As friends, they’re the port in the storm when things are rough, and they often value kindness very highly. If you know a Cancerian, chances are they’re also serious homebodies: these people love decorating their personal space and making it a perfectly comfortable nest! As such, they’re also extremely likely to accessorise their car.
Safety features are especially important to them, so reliable brands like Toyota, Volvo, and Nissan are likely to be high on their list of cars to check out. Mid-luxury cars like the Lexus GS 300 will appeal, as will the Volvo XC60 with its state-of-the-art automatic emergency braking system and fabulous leather interior. A great affordable starter car for Cancerians is the 2020 Nissan Altima, which can be outfitted with as many safety features as desired––blind spot monitoring, sure, but also alerts for parents of teen drivers.
Leo
Leo is a bold, fiery star sign. You’ll know when a Leo’s just entered the room, because they radiate an energy that demands attention from everyone! Leos make friends easily, support them unconditionally, and hate it when their friends settle for less than they deserve. Naturally, this also applies to themselves: like fellow fire sign Aries, Leos won’t settle for anything less than the best. Many Leos will love a vehicle that says ‘look at me’––think along the lines of the sporty Nissan 350Z, or a Fiat Avventura! Leos with cash to splash can also look at Cadillacs, Jaguars, Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini Aventadors––and then take their friends out for a spin in their new ride.

Virgo
You know when Virgos are around: things get done, with lots of attention to the details. Little escapes them! They’re a practical, even slightly perfectionist bunch, and aren’t easily swayed by big brand names. When it comes to cars, think elegant, understated, and classy, with great interior features. Virgos have no need to stand out too much, so Ferraris are out of the question. Toyota Camrys or Priuses are good starter cars for them: fuel-efficient and practical, with maximum bang for their buck. A Volkswagen Beetle is also likely to appeal to a Virgo who likes retro cars.
Libra
Social and diplomatic, Libras are the very embodiment of the scales representing them in the zodiac. For Libras, material possessions must reflect their ideas of beauty and elegance––by no means will they drive a car they consider ugly! The little details are important; the car has to function beautifully and look just as good. Libra folks are well-suited to Audis; those with deeper pockets might consider a Cadillac Escalade.
Scorpio
Assertive, intense, cool, and mysterious (at least, that’s how they’d like to be perceived), Scorpios are more likely to aspire to be the taukeh being chauffeured around town than driving their own car. But if they have to get behind the wheel, you can bet it’s a car that oozes sophistication, wealth, and control. Those with more modest budgets could consider the Audi A3 Cabrio or a Mazda MX-5 (perfect for cruising by your haters). For those with money to spare, a BMW is perfect: it says you’re a force to be reckoned with.

You can always count on Sagittarians for free-wheeling adventures: these are the travellers of the zodiac. Free-spirited Sags are here to explore the world and experience life to the fullest. Styles and brands aren’t especially important to them. If a car has 4 wheels and can comfortably get them places without breaking down, that’s great––though they won’t say no to something nicer! Four wheel drives are perfect for their long trips, as are motorcycles. A practical Subaru, Jeep, or RV is perfect for a Sagittarian.

Capricorn
Caps are ambitious, highly driven, independent, competent creatures. The most level-headed and serious star sign of the lot, they work hard (sometimes too hard) and can be pretty thrifty with their hard-earned cash. This doesn’t mean they’re cheap: they love high-quality items, and if they think something is good value for money, they’re willing to part with their cash. Think understated, sophisticated, and good-looking cars with top-notch handling and smooth suspension. (Four wheel drives are likely too aesthetically displeasing for most Caps.) A Tesla Model 3 or Model S is perfect for the environmentally-conscious Cap; the Audi R8 is also a pretty good bet.
Aquarius
If there was an award for Star Sign Most Likely to Change the World, Aquarians would win hands down every time. They’re curious, forward-thinking, intellectual, humanitarian, deeply principled folks, and they’re often involved in projects for making the world a better place. Aquarians love cutting-edge tech and unusual designs, and they’re often ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting new tech. A Toyota Prius or Honda Insight is a no-brainer for those who want a hybrid car. Even better is the (relatively) climate friendly electric car––they’d do well with a Tesla or a similar EV (Nio or Xpeng are coming out with some great models). We can see Aquarians falling for the Hyundai Nexo, which is a super unusual hydrogen fuel cell vehicle operating on hydrogen gas. Zero-carbon emissions––how cool is that?
Pisces
Ah, Pisces––the hippie of the zodiac. Pisces folk are deeply romantic and spiritual, intuitive and friendly… and unsurprisingly, not the most practical people around. Safety features, suspension, torque, new car, old car, whatever––those sorts of details don’t matter that much, as long as it looks pretty good, drives reasonably well and fits the budget. (A Toyota Altis would fit the bill nicely; Pisces with deeper pockets will love an S-Class Mercedes Benz.) That being said, the car needs to have a great sound system. How else can their passengers truly appreciate the perfect playlist they spent several hours putting together on Spotify? Plus, if there was an award for Most Likely To Accessorise Their Car, Pisces would win hands down.
